Sarah Palin “turkey interview” shows Palin-drones reprogrammed with insensitivity to death

November 25, 2008 By: zenboy Category: Political 1 Comment →

Just in time for Thanksgiving, we received this Palin-drone update:

Federal prosecutors, after learning about the Palin-drone conspiracy (as reported here first on yooryoo), have quietly been deployed, “terminating” the pesky robotic drones before they could cause further havoc on American politics. The tenacious Mainstreet Media has picked up on this story, albeit falsely, reporting that the Republican party is “reforming” itself (rather than eliminating the top drones from their leading ranks).

A new viral video sweeping the internet shows photographic evidence that one outlier in the Palin-drone community (namely, its namesake) has not been exterminated, but rather reprogrammed, and is now insensitive to death of any kind.

In 1942, Isaac Asimov defined the three commutable laws of robots:

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Obviously, these rules do not apply to turkeys (and Palin-drones). Chechit: at 1:19, the reporter talks about “state programs being on the chopping block” as the guy in the background places the turkey’s head into the chopper. In fact throughout the video, you can see Sarah Palin’s obvious disregard for the carnage played out behind her…

This Thansgiving season, be mindful of the Palin-drones in your neighborhoods. And have a safe holiday!

Friday Fishwrap (11-14-08): “How to Behave on a Forum”

November 14, 2008 By: cboyer Category: Friday Fishwrap No Comments →

yooRyoo\'s Friday Fishwrap!

Happy Friday! On today’s Friday Fishwrap we reveal to you the results of last Sunday’s “Is It Real?” and then share with you a fun, geeky video we found on the www…ready to get started?

Last Sunday, we presented Hamsterster - a social networking site, along the lines of Dogster and Catster, where Hamster owner could create profiles for their furry rodents and share them with fellow Hamster-owners (”Have you seen Mr. Cuddlewinks profile - I just uploaded new pics of him in his plastic ball!”). Then we asked you to vote, if it’s indeed real. Here are the results:

  • 29% thought it was real
  • 29% thought it wasn’t
  • 43% weren’t sure (and voted “maybe”)

The real answer - Hamsterster is INDEED REAL!!! And check out these fun pictures pulled from the site (of Patchy, Twinkle Toes and Mr. Bothari, respectively):

patchy - isn\'t he cute?twinkletoes - isn\'t he cuteMr. bothari - isn\'t he cute?

I am not sure I should be disturbed by Hamsterster, or just accept it. Anyway, now on to our video:

This Friday Fishwrap clip was forwarded to me by Jerimiah Owyang, and I thought would make a perfect - albeit geeky - video inclusion in today’s posting. Please enjoy, “How to Behave on a Forum”

With that, have a great weekend! Tune in this weekend for a Special Obama2.0 update post!

Palindrone - special election update: When Robots Attack

October 31, 2008 By: cboyer Category: Political No Comments →

A few weeks ago, yooRyoo ran an exclusive feature on a small robotic firm located on the icy tundra in Alaska that unleased horrific Palindrones on the “lower 48.” These drones took the disguise of Republican operatives and political candidates, and reversed themselves on every position possible.

One tenacious viewer from Southern California just sent yooRyoo a link to candid, underground footage of these robots stripped bare of their false skins, and utlizing state-of-the-art telephony technology to continue to dominate the world. Whether their rogues or mavericks or just plain divas, yooRyoo now presents: When Robots Attack!!!!

Friday Fishwrap (10-24-08): GW Bush endorses McCain/Palin - with Will Ferrill and Tina Fey

yooRyoo\'s Friday Fishwrap!

Happy Friday! In today’s Friday Fishwrap we’ll share with you the results of last Sunday’s “Is It Real?” vote, and since voting is on everyone’s mind, our viral video this week is of GW Bush endorsing the McCain/Palin ticket.

First up, last Sunday we presented a social networking application designed to help lawyers network with one another, share tactics over virtual “water coolers” and generally interact with one another. With close to 150,000 lawyers, LegalForce promises to be the hottest social networking app for legal eagles…and then we asked if it was real. Here are the results of the poll:

  • 50% of you thought it was real
  • 25% said no
  • 25% said maybe

After a slight recess, the jury has returned with this verdict: yes, indeed LegalForce is a real social networking application. C’mon, they have social networking sites dedicated to virtually everything - are you surprised?

Speaking of surprise, did you catch Will Ferrill making a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live: Thursday Update yesterday? He shared the stage with the brilliant Tina Fey…in a spot called “George W. Bush endorses McCain/Palin” - watch the video below - and enjoy your Friday!

Friday Fishwrap (8-17-08): “I Love Progress Bars”…

October 17, 2008 By: cboyer Category: Friday Fishwrap No Comments →

yooRyoo\'s Friday Fishwrap!

Happy Friday Fishrap! This is where we share the results of our latest “Is It Real?” poll, and then present an entertaining video from the web.

First: let’s share with you the results of our last “Is It Real?” -

Last Sunday we presented a new technology that the McCain campaign released in a desperate attempt to keep up with the Obama campaign. This iPhone application is designed to share with his supporters the latest smear ads and falsehoods….er, latest campaign ads and stump speeches. Taking unique advantage of the iPhone platform, they included a built-in game allowing McCain to fight back against imaginary domestic terrorist groups and voter registration groups out to “destroy to fundamentals of our economy.”

We then asked you to vote, if you think it’s real. Here are the results of that poll:

  • 80% thought it was fake
  • 13% thought it was real
  • 7% weren’t sure

The actual is that the McCain iPhone application is NOT REAL (big surprise - this guy needs his secretary - er, Cindy - to use his Blackberry for him…evidently, even though he invented it, he still doesn’t know how to use it). Good guessing…and tune in this Sunday for a new edition of “Is It Real?’

Now, on to the video part of our show. Today, we feature a nice vignette that illustrates one man’s love for the progress bar. It might take a moment to load, but be patient…it’s worth it. Have a good one!

Friday Fishwrap (10-10-08): a-ha’s “Take On Me” - the literal version

October 10, 2008 By: cboyer Category: Friday Fishwrap 1 Comment →

yooRyoo\'s Friday Fishwrap!

Happy Friday, yooRyoo denizens! In today’s Friday Fishwrap we’ll share with you the latest “virile marketing” video that’s sweeping the YouTube internet…but before we do, let’s share with you the results of the polling from last Sunday’s “Is It Real” - McDnlds

For those of you that aren’t familiar with it, every week yooRyoo presents a web 2.0 company or idea, and asks our readers to decide whether the company is real or not, without the help of the web in anyway. Last Sunday, we presented McDnld’s - a social network launched by our favorite fast-food company - defining an online community where adults and kids alike can blog and post videos and share their favorite experience with french fries. Then we asked you to vote, and here are the results:

  • 60% of you answered that you thought it was real
  • 40% of you thought it was fake

In reality, McDnld’s is fake. The fast-food company doesn’t need to launch an online community, because they already have a  “Havin’ Fun with McDonald’s” website. While their site is definitely not web 2.0, I don’t think they care  (since they have tremendous presence all over the web, already).

Incidentally, I got the idea for McDnld’s from this great Flickr posting by shopping2null:

Ok, now on to our Friday Fishwrap video - this week we are featuring a new video that take a “literal” approach to defining 1980’s music videos. Enjoy Take On Me: Literal Video Version:

Microsoft and Seinfeld team up to offend ordinary Americans

September 17, 2008 By: zenboy Category: Internet 1 Comment →

In an unexpected turn, Microsoft and Jerry Seinfeld announced today that they have abandoned their current line of “cute” and “funny” ads, instead releasing a series of stream-of-consciousness online videos where they directly insult the intelligence of Americans.

“What’s wrong with you stupid people,” Seinfeld was quoted as saying in his latest direct-to-video commercial, “why are you watching these stupid videos anyway? Do you really think I am here to be funny? You all are pathetic.”

“Yeah, and anyway it’s not like Microsoft needs you to buy more - we have 90% marketshare, you idiots,” added Gates, “And besides, didn’t your hear - I AM NO LONGER WITH THE COMPANY, YOU STUPID F*#&S!”

The video is rumored to fade with both of them mooning the camera, flipping the bird at the audience.

Joe Shmoe, average American, was reached for comment, “I mean, what were they thinking? That ordinary Americans think mustard with wine is something fancy? We’re in a monoculture - everyone has their MTV and the Food Channel.  Even the Nigerians want their Adidas. We are informed slaves to marketing. Ordinary Americans aren’t stupid, but in these commercials they are portrayed as such.”

Taking a cue from these videos, Republican presidential nominee, John McCain decided to launch into a series of online ads, directly insulting American intelligence. The first ads, entitled “Obama/Biden are sexist because they were born men” and “McCain/Palin for change - Republican have been in charge long enough: kick those bums out!“ made the rounds on the internet this morning, to mixed reviews.

Republican zealots like Rush Limbaugh and Shawn Hannity proclaimed the McCain ads as “brilliant” and “right on target” with the American zeitgeist. McCain, when reached for a reaction, asked “What’s zeitgeist? Are the Nazi Germans back in power?!”

Friday Fishwrap (8-12-08): The Wonderful New World of the Internet

September 12, 2008 By: cboyer Category: Friday Fishwrap No Comments →

yooRyoo\'s Friday Fishwrap!

Happy Friday, yooRyoo denizens! It’s been a crazy Web 2.0 week (particularly if you own a Sarah Palin website or blog). Judging by the web activity this last week, I expect this to be an interesting election cycle online.

Every Friday, on our Friday Fishwrap, yooRyoo presents the results of our “Is It Real?” poll from the previous Sunday, and then shares with you a fun, interesting video about Web 2.0. So, let’s get started:

Last Sunday, we featured a company called MyGlu - a web 2.0 open-source API that allows users the ability to thread together status updates and the like from a variety of social network sites. It’s all presented in a single, dashboard-like intereface. Then, we asked you to vote if the company is indeed real. Here are the survey results:

  • 50% of you thought that MyGlu was real
  • 50% thought that MyGlu might be real
  • No one thought that MyGlu was fake.

Well, in all actuality, MyGlu is indeed a fake, made-up company - everyone was wrong! I guess it is believable that a service like MyGlu can exist (particularly since there are too many social networking sites in this day and age - I belong to seven myself - SEVEN!!!). Well, who knows what the future of the web will hold…

Which is a nice transition to today’s video. It’s entitled “Internet 1994” and features the cool, “new” possibilities of what the web could be. Sometimes it’s interesting to reflect that a mere 14 years ago, the web was filled with static webpages, indexed in categories by Yahoo! and Alta Vista. This video is a quaint, retro reminder of this new technology - enjoy!
